Chaos

7" x 7", 732.4K
Digital Collage

This assignment came at a great time. I finally moved this week, and it was total chaos. I hired the movers to come Sunday, only to find out that it is against my building's rules to move out on a Sunday! After a lot of mayhem and paying the movers TWICE, I was able to fully move in to my new apartment on Tuesday. Needless to say, organization has not yet returned to my life. Moving is a slow, exhausting experience.

Hey Lauren,
Glad to hear that you are finally moved into your new home. I have to be honest with you, I have been living in my apartment for a little over a year and my boyfriend and I still have boxes that have not bee unpacked. Unpacking is chaos and I think you did a great job conveying that in your image. Your work and style puts a smile on my face because I can see you sense of humor and personality shine through.

Hello Lauren,
Had to pay the movers twice??? I agree with Grace's comment about being able to see your humor and personality in your piece. It does feel like chaos and you visually communicated that very effectively. I still have boxes that need to be unpacked from the day I moved, so don't feel bad.

I agree with all the previous comments, you convey the chaotic nature of moving really well. There is also a nice playfulness and lightheartedness in your work. And even though moving can be stressful settling into your new place and making it your own can be really refreshing. I can't wait to see what comes nxt in your work.

Hey Lauren your image does look like chaos . It was really great the way you put everything all stacked up just like you were unloading a sack like Santa!

Against the building's rules to move out on a Sunday? HA! What utter nonsense. The collage is great! I love the spare lines representing your new place, with what looks like Santa Claus' bag filled with crazy apartment stuff. Lamps upside-down, papers papers papers, containers, etc. That's very comical, really. This would make a great editorial illustration!

Wow what a not fun adventure! Moving is always like this. I moved a few months ago and I completely identify with the cluster of stuff in a blank room. I know that it feels like you don't have time to organize especially since we are in the grind of the semester. I admire your stamina. Great Piece!

The humor that infuses your work is wonderful.

Having moved as frequently as I have, I sympathize, and your piece really evokes that overwhelmed feeling. In addition, the pile of stuff - it captures that moment when you see all your possessions, your whole life, reduced to what can fit in the moving van. Very nice.

Lauren,

Ick, the horrible adventure of moving! I feel your pain. Paying the movers twice? What!!! I'm glad to hear you survived. As far as your piece, I am totally obsessing over your background. Did you draw that or is a digital background? I love any kind of drawing that looks mechanical yet comic-like. Of course, the pile image is great. Very fun and you definitely got your point across.

I love it! I like the graphic cartoon aspects to the image. I think that it shows chaos with a little comic relief which is really what can balance the chaos. I know moving is crazy, I moved 3 times in 4 years and will have to in 8 months SO I feel you. Hope everything works out with the new apartment!

You can really see the emotions that you were feeling as expressed through your digital collage. The chaos of the central image makes clear your frustration, but you can tell that you have tried to maintain a sense of humor about the whole thing. I love the capacity of art to help us understand each other.

Thank you for your comments. I'm glad that you saw that there are more photos than just the one at the top of the post! This may have been a bad layout choice, as a number of people seem to have missed the rest of the album. Yeah, I was happy to share my fall day with you!
